About the Company

KL China Dispute Resolution Ltd. provides support and protection to companies, institutions and individuals operating in China, facing legal and informal risks. The scope of activities makes KL China Dispute Resolution unique in her home country the Czech Republic, providing drafting and revision of contracts, negotiation and mediation in both legal and informal disputes or preparing strategy and materials for lawsuit or arbitration.

Founder & Director

Jan Körbel

Educated as a sinologist and an economist, Jan lived in China all his professional life. Throughout his career in different roles and positions, he has worked towards creating understanding and mutually beneficial cooperation between the European and Chinese sides. Jan has worked on projects with a wide array of European companies, he has experience with operating his own business in both Europe and China. He has worked for a Chinese state-owned company. He served as an interpreter for state officials, institutional representatives, directors and decision makers of European companies of different sizes, and translated materials across industries.

This experience provides Jan with an insight into the necessary conditions of a successful business cooperation in China, including communication distinctions, import and export procedures or the preparation of China-oriented marketing materials. He understands the specifics of the Chinese management and Chinese legal environment. He is familiar with negotiations in China and the internal workings of the Chinese production, investment and state-owned companies.

Jan currently serves as a permanent representative of The Czech – Central Asian Chamber of Commerce in China. He carries out the Chamber’s activities in China, preparing industry analysis, feasibility studies and risk assessments for the Chamber’s members.

Jan Körbel was a long-term resident of Beijing. He used to live in different provinces and cities of various sizes in the past, and throughout his life he had the opportunity to visit most of China’s provinces. Among his better-known clients are Veolia, Bank of China, CzechTrade, HomeCredit and Czech Ministry of Agriculture.

Liu Ming

Liu Ming graduated her law major at one of the best Chinese universities and started working for one of the oldest law firms in Beijing. Among her specializations are civil law, commercial law and contract law. Among her clients are Chinese property developers, banks, as well as small and medium enterprises and individuals. Besides experience from the courtrooms, she is experienced in drafting and revising contracts, legal consultations and negotiation on behalf of her clients.

Years of experience working with Chinese clients has made her familiar with the operational mechanism of Chinese companies and the decision makers’ way of thinking. Her ability to point out implicit or hidden factors is often the main aspect in reaching the solution of the problems.

Liu Ming has provided consultations, came up with legal solutions and secured fair treatment for a variety of foreign clients. Among notable examples is an arbitration for a foreign employee of the Chines state-owned enterprise who was not properly compensated after termination of the cooperation. Her effort turned it into the first case of a foreign employee being compensated by the Chinese state-owned enterprise.

Liu Ming has helped foreign companies to deal with the Chinese authorities, drafted and commented contracts, solved problems related to export regulations etc. She has prevented foreign workers from facing legal risks by pointing out the issues with unbalanced labor contracts.

Zhang Xiaomin

Zhang Xiaomin graduated from Taiyuan University of Science and Technology with a Bachelor's degree in Law and China University of Political Science and Law with a Master's degree. She passed the national bar examination during her undergraduate studies and obtained her license in 2015. She used to be the youngest partner in her law firm, a member of the Beijing Bar Association, and has served as a legal advisor to more than a dozen banks, enterprises, government departments, schools, hospitals.

She is passionate about charity and has organised and set up the Zhongnan Legal Charity Volunteer Team, which was awarded the annual model group by the Beijing Charity Volunteer Association.

Zhang Xiaomin's years of experience in dealing with Chinese people at all levels have made her very good at handling civil and commercial disputes. She is able to quickly grasp the essence of a case, clarify the circumstances and provide quality legal services to her clients.
